2016 International World Water Day In partnership with the Greater Cleveland Aquarium
Since 2010, Drink Local. Drink Tap., Inc. ™ has led educational, youth focused events on the United Nation’s International World Water Day (WWD) to celebrate local student action that has positively impacted local water resources and student action that has helped people globally gain access to safe drinking water. In 2014, the focus of WWD is ‘Water and Energy’; themes exist annually through the year 2015 in order to bring attention to the importance of our freshwater resources. This year, DLDT has partnered with the Greater Cleveland Aquarium to bring 200+ DLDT Wavemaker Program students from area schools to the GCA for a day of water education, celebration and awards. Students will be able to explore the GCA, visit interactive learning stations provided by, but not limited to: the Cleveland Division of Water, Cleveland Division of Water Pollution Control, Cuyahoga County Soil and Water Conservation District, Alliance for the Great Lakes and Sustainable Cleveland 2019.
Ways which you can participate include:
- Hosting an interactive learning station as a partner from 9am-12pm
- Sponsoring World Water Day
- Volunteering (prior to and on WWD 8:30am-1:30pm)

Each student involved in WWD 2012 with DLDT has participated in our Wavemaker Program 2011-2012 and taken the steps to become sustainable water users and help students in need of safe water in Uganda. March 22nd, 2012, these same students will walk carrying a day’s worth of water with Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and DLDT to the shores of Lake Erie honoring third world students without access to safe water. The program will continue with water education and a private screening of our film (watch the trailer here) at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum which connects Northeast Ohioans to a rural village and orphan school in Uganda, East Africa (read more about DLDT’s Making Waves from Cleveland to Uganda Project here).
