Week 4: 2020 Sustainability Challenge – Recycling Textiles

    February 11, 2020 |

    Why Take This Challenge?

Sticking to the theme of recycling, did you know there is about 25 BILLION pounds of textile waste per year in just the United States?! Of that, 85% ends up in landfills, which means it is important that we do our part to make a difference. Although it seems like a large pile of garbage to climb, as a collective effort everyone can make small changes that can lead to a large impact.

How Does This Challenge Benefit Me?

Looking at a crowded closest can be daunting and that is because we as humans tend to hold onto material things that are not utilized. Donating clothes and recycling shoes can feel rewarding- not only are you helping the planet, but you are helping others as well.

What If I Already Do This?

Research what other household items you can reuse or recycle! Trying to generate zero waste should always be the goal.

Prep This Weekend for Your More Sustainable Week

Collect your old tennis shoes, unused clothing and other random supplies around your house to donate this week! Some local and national collectors of textiles, shoes and other household items are Project Linus, Simple Recycling, H&M stores, Nike retailers and Upcycle Parts Ohio.

Taking this challenge? Spread the word and use the hashtag #Waves4Change so we can change the world together and inspire others to live better.
